Week 1 Trivia

As thewheaties mentioned on the World Chat, we are going to set up a little trivia game to spice things up. The format will be as follows: 25 questions on a variety of sports-related subjects, each worth a certain amount of points. In total, the 25 questions will be worth approximately 100 points each week (this week it's exactly 100.) Each week, the winner will get a $15 gift card to somewhere like Amazon, second place will get a $10 GC and third place will get a $5 GC. Since we are in the early stages of the contest, we have not yet figured out how to break ties...but it will only really be an issue if there is a tie for one of the podium places. At the end of the season (after 10 weeks of trivia), there will be an overall grand prize winner ($100), determined via the most points scored all year. Second place in this competition will receive $60 and third place overall will get $40.

Each week, the trivia questions will be posted on a Google Form that will be accessed via this blog. Along with the questions, the blog will feature the current standings for the season-long competition and Steiny's Private World Rules as well as a few other fun features that will be added if/when I have time. The initial week's questions can be seen here. Only forms filled out before noon EST on Sunday, Sept 29th will be considered for the week's competition. Good luck!

At the end of the first week, here are the correct answers to the questions as well as a quick peak at the standings (both weekly and overall)...last but not least, I want to pass along the message that thewheaties will be participating in trivia each week for fun but has volunteered to remove himself from the running for the prize money. Now let's take a look at whose in the lead at the moment:

Season 32 Trade Deadline

Awhile back, I worked with cubcub113 to develop a playoff prediction model...that didn't quite work out the way I envisioned it but something else did result that's been fun to look at from time to time. That "something else" is a method of grouping all 32 franchises in a Hardball world into one of three classifications that are often referred to around the trade deadline (and at other various points in the season), those being: buyers, holders and sellers.
